Item WHISPERCHAT: DECENTRALIZED INSTANT MESSAGING(2022-01-20) Abdulaziz Mohamed Hassan, Mohamed; Yazıcı, Ali; Çulha, DavutInstant messaging has seen wide adoption as a means of communication. Most instant messaging applications either actively collect or leak metadata. Most people are not aware of the security and privacy issues that come with modern popular instant messaging applications. We propose a decentralized, easy-to-use messaging system that is both secure and completely anonymous. It is censorship-resistant as there are no centralized servers for an attacker to compromise. We have implemented the application on the Android platform and runs a light client on the Ethereum platform. We have evaluated the performance of our proposed application to show that it is capable of not only being secure and anonymous but also practical.
