Item DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION TOWARD INDUSTRY 4.0: A CASE STUDY IN TURKEY(2022-01-26) Elitok, Eda; KARAKAYA, ZiyaIndustry 4.0, otherwise known as 4th. Industrial Revolution, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Industrial IoT, has become a major driving force in transforming industries across the globe. This movement initially emereged in the strategies of Germany's high-tech manufacturing industry. Looking at Industry 4.0 from a broader perspective, we see an integrated process, including a series of concepts as cloud technology, the Internet of Things, augmented reality, additive manifacturing, autonomous robots, simulation, system integration, cybersecurity and big data. In this way, traditional manufacturing methods and digital processes can be realized by following different stages and methods for production. As a consequence, the digitalization of all these processes – likely to affect both social and economic lives in many different dimensions - has become inevitable for many sectors. Companies that cannot adapt to such transformation may face increasing difficulty in managing business processes to meet demands. In this research, a case study is conducted to analyze the positive effects of digital transformation toward Industry 4.0 on a production facility, and to explain the dynamics of the related transformation result. In detail, by comparing the digital transformation processes carried out in an aluminium production facility with both pre- and post-values, an analysis is made of the course of digital transformation toward Industry 4.0. According to data collected during the study, "Industry 4.0 Readiness" online self-check application, provided by IMPULS [1] is used to calculate the scorecard and the results show that Eti Aluminium took place at second level (intermediate), out of 5 scale, in overall. That means, Eti Aluminium has implemented the Industry 4.0 activities at intermediate level.
