Abstract
Günümüzde sosyal medya sık ve yaygın kullanılan bir iletişim aracı olarak
dikkat çekmektedir. Sosyal medyanın sık ve yaygın kullanımı çeşitli araştırmalara
konu olmasına neden olmaktadır. Sosyal medya bugünün şartlarında normal yaşamı
etkileyen bir unsur haline gelmiştir. Cep telefonları ve dizüstü bilgisayarlar
aracılığıyla internet ve sosyal medya kullanımı normal hayatın bir rutini haline
dönüşmüştür. Bu çalışmada, Fransız düşünür Jean Baudrillard’ın ortaya koyduğu
simülasyon kuramı ve hiper-gerçeklik kavramları ile sosyal medya arasında bir ilişki
kurulmaya çalışılmıştır.
Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden derinlemesine görüşme tekniğinin kullanıldığı
çalışmada, görüşmeler sosyal medya konusunda akademik araştırmalar yapan kişiler
ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular, sosyal medya ve insan ilişkileri, sosyal medya gerçeklik/sanallık ilişkisi ve dijital mahremiyet temaları altında ele alınmıştır. Sosyal
medya ve insan ilişkisi bağlamında sosyal medyanın; iletişim kurmak, haberdar
olmak, görünür olmak, sosyalleşme, topluma katılım, beğenilme ve toplumsal
değişim gibi sebepler ile katılımcılar tarafından kullanıldığı saptanmıştır.
Geçeklik/sanallık ilişkisi açısından, sosyal medyanın simülasyon kuramı ile
benzerlik gösterdiği, hiper-gerçeklik ile uyumlu bir mekanizma olarak
nitelendirildiği, gerçeklikle bağının yaralı olduğu, sosyal medyada görselliğin ön
planda oluşunun gerçekliği önemli ölçüde etkilediği, sözün yerine geçerek farklı bir
iletişime neden olduğu belirlenmiştir. Dijital mahremiyet ile ilgili olarak ise, sosyal
medyanın çeşitli mahremiyet ve güvenlik problemlerini barındırdığı, tüketimi
artırdığı ve desteklediği ifade edilmiştir.

Reality, Virtuality and Social Media: A Study via
Baudrillard
ABSTRACT: Nowadays, social media attracts the attention as a common and widely used communication tool. The use of internet through mobile phones and laptops has made social media as normal life routine. In this study, it is aimed to establish a relationship between social media and simulation theory and the concept of hyper reality, introduced by French philospher Jean Baudrillard. In this study, in order to understand the current situation in our life, with the help of simulation theory, the relationship between the theory and the concepts of hyper-reality and social media, has been investigated. In this context, by using in depth interview technique of qualitative research methods interviews were conducted with people who carry out academic researches on social media. The findings of these interviews are used under these themes: social media and human relationships, the relationship between social media-reality/virtuality and digital privacy. These findings showed that within the context of social media and human relations, social media has been used by participants in the following areas: to communicate, to be notified, to be visible, to socialize, to participate in society, to be liked and to keep pace with social change. Furthermore, from the reality/virtuality point of view, this study also demonstrates that social media shows similarity to simulation theory, it is described as a mechanism compatible with hyper-reality, and it's connection with reality is "problematic". The importance of visuality in social media has affected reality significantly, resulting in a replacement in position of 'word' in our daily life which eventually introduced a different types of communication ways in our society. Lastly, in relation to digital privacy, the findings displayed that social media leads to variety of privacy/security problems and an increase in consumption in the society.
